A1 Gas & Pest Control is fully accredited with the LP Gas Association of South Africa. All our work is done in compliance with both the South African National Standard (SANS: 10087-1) and the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Safety Association of South Africa (LPGSA), requirements.l

Please take note of these important SANS 10087 installation regulation requirements applicable to the positioning of gas bottles:

  • Bottle(s) cannot be placed closer than 1m to a door.
  • Bottle(s) cannot be placed closer than 2m to an open drain or air vents, where the gas can gather if the bottle leaks.
  • Bottle(s) cannot be placed closer than 5m to an electrical switch, motor, generator, pool pump etc.
  • Bottle(s) cannot be placed closer than 1m to the side of a window unless there is at least 300mm between the bottom of the window and the top of the bottle and a non combustible roof has been placed between the window and the bottle.
  • Bottle(s) cannot be placed closer than 1m to a boundary wall, unless the wall is a double brick "firewall" > 1.8m tall, with no ventilation gaps in the wall.

Other installation rules:

  • Only class 1 or 2 copper pipes, or other approved gas piping, may be used (Note: This is not the same copper piping as used by plumbers)
  • Copper pipes going through a wall must be sleeved
  • Approved flexible gas hose may not be more than two meters long and may not go through any partition (including wood, dry wall, cupboard wall etc,)

  • Always use a registered installer
  • Always use a qualified gas dealer
  • Always use a verified and tested gas product
  • Always check the seal on a cylinder matches the brand of the cylinder
  • Always check gas appliances before use
